Cap de Creus yacht charter along the Costa Brava coast

A day sail or multi-day leg from Palamós along the cliffs of Cap de Creus to the bay of Cadaqués.

Sailing to Cap de Creus

Leaving Palamós, the course runs north past Begur's sheltered coves and the open water off the Medes Islands before the coastline steepens into the granite headlands of Cap de Creus. This is the most exposed stretch of the Costa Brava, where cliffs drop straight into the sea and the tramontana can pick up without warning, so the skipper reads the forecast before committing to the full run.

Rounding the cape, the water calms in the lee of the headland and the white houses of Cadaqués appear against the hillside. Most charters anchor off the town for a swim and a walk ashore, rather than taking a berth in the small harbour, which fills quickly in high season.

Run as a single long day, the trip to Cap de Creus and back to Palamós takes the better part of a day on the water. Built into a longer charter, it becomes one leg of a week along the coast, with a night at anchor near Cadaqués before continuing north or turning back toward Begur and the Medes Islands.

Along the way

Hidden coves en route

Between Palamós and Cap de Creus the coast opens into a string of small coves, many only reachable by water, where the crew can stop for a swim before continuing north.

Cadaqués anchorage

The yacht anchors off Cadaqués rather than queuing for the harbour, giving guests a swim stop and a tender ashore to walk the old town.

Exposed capes of Cap de Creus

The headland is the most rugged point on this coast, with granite cliffs and no shelter from the open sea, so the skipper times the crossing around the wind forecast.

Combine with the Medes Islands

On a longer charter this route pairs naturally with a stop at the Medes Islands, linking two of the Costa Brava's most distinctive anchorages in one itinerary.
